Your tight daily activities, definitely can’t be separated from consuming coffee. Because, besides being able to help you stay awake while working, coffee can also raise your spirits when you are busy with your schedule. But do ever you know how coffee was first discovered?

In 700 BC, coffee was first discovered by Khaldi in Ethiopia. He was a goat herder who was carrying his goat around that day. But accidentally, his goat ate the fruit that was in the bushes and suddenly became energetic. Khaldi, who was curious, also tried the fruit. The unique taste of sour and sweet and the new taste that he had never tried before made Khaldi interested. He brought the fruit home and told his wife. His wife called the fruit “Heaven Sent” because she was amazed by the fruit. Khaldi’s wife also distributed the fruit among the monks and nuns.

One of the monks tried to pound the seeds from the fruit and brewed it with hot water and then drank it. People believed that it was the first cup of coffee in the world. The monks call this drink “Gahwa” because it keeps them awake so they can pray longer.

Actually this story was never really written down at that time, but people believed that the story “Khaldi and The Dancing Goat” was true. And this story is believed to this day, that it was in Ethiopia the coffee was first discovered.

Not only as the place where coffee was first discovered, Ethiopia was also the place where coffee was roasted for the first time. At that time, a farmer was roasting meat using a tree branch, which he didn’t realize that the tree branch still had coffee beans on it. It was in this accidental process that the farmer discovered the benefits of the coffee. At that time, coffee was also used as a drink that could extend working hours, because sleepiness could disappear and it will make you more energetic.

Coffee became increasingly famous when it began to be marketed to Arabia via Yemen at the Port of Mocha. In the 15th century coffee became increasingly popular in the Middle East. Coffee also began to spread to Europe in 1570 through Venice before growing rapidly to other regions such as France, Netherland, England and Germany.

In 1714, coffee became so popular and the Mayor of Amsterdam gifted a coffee plant to King Louis XIV of France. King Louis also ordered to plant coffee plants in the Royal Botanical Garden in Paris. The seeds were also given to Navy officer Grabriel de Clieu to be planted on the island of Martinique. In Martinique, the coffee plant thrives so well that it is the mother of all trees in the entire Caribbean.

The French did not want to share the coffee seeds, but one day the wife of the French Governor was captivated by the good looks of Francisco de Mello Palheta, who was assigned to go to Guyana. The Governor’s wife gave him a bouquet of very fertile coffee seeds, which were then planted in South America and have become a source of income to this day.

The traders and colonialists continued to bring coffee seeds to every place they visited so that coffee continued to be planted in a new places. Plantations continue to be established in tropical forests on mountainous highlands, producing better quality coffee.

Now, coffee is one of the most sought after commodities in the world after oil. In fact, coffee has become a trend and also a daily necessity nowadays.
